Kingdom and Loco Skates are proud to bring you the UK’s first ever week long residential inline skate camps. The camps are a chance for inliners of all ages and abilities to visit the cream of British skateparks for 5 days, learn new skills and tricks from pro riders such as Nick Lomax and Sam Tuffnell, make new friends and basically submerge themselves in the UK inline scene. If you’re looking for the ultimate fun action Summer holiday, then check out www.inlinecamp.eu for more details.”
Another May bank holiday, another StreetFest and whilst our northern comrades battled it out in a muddy field up north, us southerners enjoyed the relative comfort of Hearn Street car park. Jamie Stenner took the win over Danny Ives and Leon in the mini comp and everyone had a freaking good party.

So what’s your name, how long have you been blading and where are you living right now.
Daniel James Stirling. On and off for about 10 years lets say. Ive been Living in Brighton (England) for around 5 years and still feels like a Holiday
What is going on in the world of Daniel Stirling these days… Anything in the pipe line we should know about?
I’ve been skating more than ever the last few months, Since Dom West moved down we’ve been filming a bit and since the birth Of “Cidy Life” and having a camera there’s been a lot more motivation and enthusiasm for blading in our circle. Blading aside I’ve been painting a lot and am waiting on a long awaited website for my Illustration. So look out for that Courtesy of Kola, here’s a snap of some recent work.
Describe your style of skating in the form of cheese.
Well consistency wise I’m more like a goats cheese, my body form’s more cheese stringy, but 10 years in I’m gonna have to go with a harder more mature farmhouse cheddar to keep my west cuntree roots at heart, simple yet traditional, I’m gonna go with a “Cheshire” cheddar.
Who do you skate with, & do your blade friends inspire you to try new things?
I skate with you the most for sure, our trick vocab/technique couldn’t be further apart so it’ll never get old. Steve Collis is always bringing something innovative and original to the session, always refreshing skating with him. Mike Welland (OG) seems to have become our Chauffeur once a week to the decent parks outta town, always much appreciated, I think I’ll always feel like a grom skating with Mike, he just effortlessly does the tricks that you can’t. Sam Tuffnell has been out with us every skate we’ve had since the accident either on his custom quads or just to hang, finding new spots and persuading us into tricks he wouldn’t think twice about that we shouldn’t be doing haha.
Simon Isles has been gracing us with his presence a lot less regularly as of late but is always a pleasure having him visit, and is for sure a founded Cidy Life member, Dude shreds, so much potential. Dom west moved back from Oz a few months back and brought new life to the circle, I thought he’d allow himself a little break after just making one of the best blade films we’d ever seen but the first day I met him he was on the blades and filming, he deserves an award or a hell of a lot more recognition for what he does let alone a hefty wage, its clear his passion for blading outshines his care for any of that though. The one thing I hate about skating with Dom is the constant reminder that he’s out filming me and getting my name out there, yet he’s actually much better than me at skating haha. Really though he’s the hero Brighton was waiting for, everything he touches turns to gold. Adam Kola’s obviously an integral member of Cidy Life. If you want something done well, he’s the man. His name speaks for himself so… Jake Eley’s always a super sick positive and a keeping it real out here sorta guy to skate with. And a huge supporter of Cidy Life. Big Up “LOCO”. And the others Sim, Ryan, Mia, Al, Oli, Stu ect ect..
The whole CIDY LIFE business seems to bring a new light to blading, friends hanging out, skating and having fun, nothing too serious. How did it all start out?
”CIDY LIFE” is a basically a bunch of guys laughing too much at inside jokes, haha. The name was a crappy expression that stuck we all used to shout a lot when we were either out at parties or just generally outdoors as a gang, I think the names terrible personally, but that’s the point I think, we don’t take our selves seriously when we’re together cus its too fun, everything we’ve filmed so far is pretty much 90% B-Roll 10% average skating. Its just the feel of it that has seemed to come across well in the edits so far I think. We can’t skate, we can’t film, but for some reason people are enjoying them haha. Surely that’s reason enough to make a shit blog and upload stuff. As people we all have a lot of creativity and diverse lives outside of rollerblading which I think is the reason we can have fun with it and know that its not the be all and end all. Most of us enjoy watching skateboarding, whatever’s fresh and worth watching gets sent around, I guess It was probably vids like the old “Palace” VHS sections that sparked the idea of having no budget or headline skaters. As long as the skating works with the music and everyone’s swaggin out in their own way, it works.
So we started filming early this year with a JVC handy mini DV daddy cam literally handed down by your (ryan’s) daddy and bought a little fisheye and flash lights as we skated at night mostly. We quickly learned good angles are hard to come by and it’s not as easy as it looks. In the first few days trying to film I had a new found respect for Dom, making skating look good comes with experience. Since then Cidy Life have been making random online sections and with the help of James Sharp we have been able to upgrade our camera to an Canon XM1. Although the camera got run over by a car last week… Just to let you know the camera’s fine…
Actually Dan, Cidy Life comes from a Strange Creatures quote. Cidy Life aside, your recent edit at the level (Again) seemed to go down well. Didn’t you get a billion hits in the first few days? Do you think this has motivated your skating recently.
Yeah man I couldn’t believe Dom wanted to film me in the first place, I was honored, but I don’t think either of us knew how successful it would become. It kinda went viral on facebook via Vimeo for a week, haha. 10,000 hits in 5 days for a inline section on Vimeo was apparently pretty good. Dom and I were stoked and the track “I Maaaade iiit” was shared a lot that week.
But the strangest thing was that even on “That website” we literally didn’t have one negative response which I guess is what kicked my ass in gear to get out blading more. Now more people know my name I’m expecting the next edit will get some hate. The morning after it dropped Dom sent me a Be-mag msg board link and I couldn’t believe what I was reading, It was all a bit mental to be honest, but also interesting I guess to see a lot of similar comments. The newest thing for me was actually watching myself skate filmed properly for the first time. Everyone rinsed me for watching it too much that first week but I’ve learned it’s personally the most helpful way to improve, especially style wise, its purely self criticism, it’s no different to looking into a mirror, surely? I hope my sponsors are happy. Dom and I might be working on something new, or we might not, maybe you’ll have to wait and see maybe you wont
Dude your answers are too long, any last Shout outs?
Think I’ve covered everyone haha, So just a cheers to my sponsors Route One and Razors. And a kiss to George…
